Protecting your bin from excess contamination is an oddly necessary thing. Bin liners are great at that - keep all the waste in one place, then drop it off to your kerbside bins and your kitchen bin remains at least relatively pleasant in its fragrances. But... plastic bin liners are terrible for the environment - like plastic bags, turtles think they're food, and the plastics never truly biodegrade, breaking down into microplastics which ends up IN OUR FOOD... ugh.

Thankfully, there are plenty of properly compostable bin liner options these days. Just double check the packaging and make sure it's home compostable - this means that the material is appropriate for general composting, and doesn't need higher level processing to break down properly.
